A Home With A Lobby

Monday, February 17, 2014

So we all know there are different kinds of homes ... There are houses, duplexes, townhouses, condos and my least favorite apartment buildings with a lobby .... This kind of living is so different then any of the ones mentioned above .... Then if you want to live life on the inner rim of the edge to hell, try a member co-op apartment building with a laundry room, lobby and elevators ....

You will find yourselves thrown into interaction with people on a whole different level ... You will have days where you feel like you have moved into the asylum and the insane are running it .....

These places have to have boards and everything be done in a proper manner especially in Canada .... So day after day after day you weave your way through forests of trees now turned into paper and that is just getting to your door .... You will then be greeted by notes reminding you not to smoke marijuana or cigarettes in the stairwell or hallways, not to leave your laundry in the washing machines and my all time favorite a reminder not to put feces in the washing machines ....

Then there are the constant messages of committee meetings and fire drills and water repairs oh and just this week one telling us if we know who stole the lamp in the lobby to please let the office staff know ... They have it on the lobby camera but we need to return the lamp or tell our friends to return it, for that another tree lost it's li
I should mention, even if I'm guilty myself, the constant yelling from your neighbors or the sounds of what sounds like wild animals having sex as you wait to get on the elevator and everyone knows everyone's business and you see the old ladies wandering around the lobby getting all the latest gossip they can get .....

This is the life of an apartment dweller, an apartment dweller with a lobby living in a co-op building where everyone is family and they behave just like it :)

"I installed a skylight in my apartment ... the people who live above me are furious!"

“But is it such a bad thing to live like this for just a little while? Just for a few months of one's life, is it so awful to travel through time with no greater ambition than to find the next lovely meal? Or to learn how to speak a language for no higher purpose than that it pleases your ear to hear it? Or to nap in a garden, in a patch of sunlight, in the middle of the day, right next to your favourite fountain? And then to do it again the next day?”
